Your Shipping Address

Chances are you already have a primary shipping address--you call it your home. In most cases, this is where you would want your merchandise delivered.

In many cases having the shipping address match the billing address can simplify registration with the online retailer. Some retailers will make it easy to copy one from another.

Even so, it is not usually required to make both addresses the same. It is possible for example, to buy a gift for another person and have it shipped to their residence.

Alternate Shipping Addresses

Sometimes the place where you live is not the most desirable shipping address. One possible reason may be that no one is available during business hours to receive deliveries which cannot be left at the door.

Often the post office or shipping company will leave a note in this situation telling you where to pick up your package. For most, this arrangement works fine. For others, picking up these items at the designated location may or may not be convenient. There also may be security or other issues.

One solution is to designate a friend, neighbor or relative's home as your shipping address. Alternatively, a mail box service such as Mail Boxes Etc. or The UPS Store may fill the bill.

By renting a box at one of these services you can provide an address for retailers to ship to even when you are not personally available to receive them.
